The Manager, Individual Giving Fundraising is responsible for the management of USA for UNHCR’s efforts to acquire, retain, recapture, steward and upgrade donors. Under the direction of the Individual Giving Director, the Manager will orchestrate direct mail efforts—including prospecting, donor and mid-level appeals and cultivations and be responsible for the achievement of strategic objectives and revenue targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement and manage annual fund plans for direct mail donors under $10,000.
  • Manage a direct mail program including new donor acquisition, multichannel tracks for upgrades, retention, reactivation and appeals in collaboration with Individual Giving Director, Digital Director and consultants.
  • Plan strategies, testing and implementation of a compelling communication strategy for donors, from their point of acquisition throughout their lifecycle.
  • Manage a robust mid-level giving program.
  • Manage the creative development process and provide test recommendations and creative input.
  • Work with Individual Giving Coordinator to data mine the UNHCR website and research materials for mail content.
  • Provide feedback for and maintain strategy briefs for campaigns, across online and offline channels.
  • Work closely with the individual giving team and digital team to collaborate on content and integrate fundraising efforts.
  • Work collaboratively across departments on overlapping fundraising and engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate with communications and fundraising staff to facilitate seamless and appropriate communication and treatment of donors as they move between fundraising programs.
  • Develop and execute contact and segmentation strategies and approve segment groups for solicitation, ensuring campaigns are segmented appropriately.
  • Collaborate with IG Director on the preparation of the Individual Giving budget.
  • Monitor and track the direct mail expense budget, in collaboration with colleagues and vendors.
  • Regularly review program performance against targets for donors and mid-level donors and recommend changes in strategy when necessary.
  • Work closely with the major gifts team to implement upgrade plans and identify mid-level prospects.
  • With Manager, Budget and Analysis, analyze donor revenue and trends to determine the most effective fundraising engagement strategies and identify and establish benchmarks for donor behavior and giving trends to be used as guidelines in setting fundraising goals.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of related experience; each year of work experience may be substituted for each year of education required.
  • Demonstrated ability to think through problems systematically, integrate information from multiple sources, propose and implement solutions, and monitor their effectiveness.
  • A minimum of three years of direct mail experience.
  • A minimum of two years of direct experience with digital acquisition campaigns and strategies for enhancing direct mail marketing through the use of social media, digital advertising and email.
  • Strong computer literacy, including word processing and reporting capabilities using database software and Excel, and the ability to search the internet for research purposes and to learn new Windows-based programs.
  • Ability to carry out the essential functions independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detailed-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills.
  • Strong understanding of donor stewardship and engagement pathways.
  • Strong project management skills with direct experience managing large or complex projects, including planning budgeting, and directing the work of consultants and vendors.
  • Direct experience growing a program based on analysis and testing.
  • Strong knowledge of data segmentation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across divisions to implement processes and achieve results.
  • Proven ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices.
