POSITION PURPOSE:

Lead the team responsible for  TVA‘s creative development process and workflow, providing strategic direction for traditional design, collateral, internal/external publications (print and digital), advertising, scripts, exhibits, web pages, websites, photography, video, web streaming and other interactive vehicles.  Inspire a multi-disciplined creative team to successfully deliver on brand marketing/identity, education and awareness, customer loyalty, program participation and reputation management initiatives. Approve design, development, and execution that translate business objectives and strategic messaging into creative deliverables across multiple channels, ensuring a quality, consistent and compelling presentation of the TVA brand. Provide strategic direction for design, development, and implementation of TVA’s strategic messaging through video and other presentation materials, primarily for CEO and SBU executives, but also for public relations and internal communications. Oversee Communications’ traffic management and digital asset management system for high productivity, resource allocation and quality control purposes.

Budget Responsibility — $3-5 million

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Serve as TVA’s lead creative director.
  2. Leverage business acumen and strong creative perspective to lead the development of creative strategies and solutions, using a strategic and integrated approach to communicate TVA messaging across a mix of channels, reinforce brand marketing/identity, educate key stakeholders, build customer loyalty, increase program participation and help manage reputation.
  3. Develop a Digital and Creative Services annual strategic communications plan that is data-driven and customer centric and contribute to the C&M business plan, aligning to TVA business objectives and priorities.
  4. Lead TVA’s Digital and Creative Services team to meet internal client business needs while adhering to quality standards and TVA brand guidelines; aligning with TVA’s corporate vision, mission, strategy and priorities; and being responsible with agency funds.
  5. Partnering with teams in the business units, advise and lead creation/approve marketing, advertising and promotional strategies that drive TVA revenue growth, increase customer/end user participation (e.g. Green Power Switch, home energy audits, river safety), manage reputation and increase brand recognition.
  6. Oversee pre-production planning, development, design, timeline, budget and execution of collateral, publications, advertising, scripts, exhibits, photography, web pages, video production, web streaming and other interactive vehicles, working in collaboration with C&M team members and internal clients.
  7. Manage the production of executive communications material working closely with fellow communicators – may include developing PowerPoint presentations, speeches, video scripts, audio/video uplifts or other traditional and/or new media materials. Coach executives on their delivery of presentations.
  8. Serve as lead producer for TVA communications video creative efforts assuring quality control, efficiency, accuracy, coordination, and overall effectiveness. Lead all aspects of technical productions including the direction of actors, technical support personnel (lighting, audio, teleprompter) and other tele-production technicians. Personally produce and edit communications as needed.
  9. Lead Communications’ interface with IT, encouraging the integration of new technologies and applications to drive an expanding digital communications strategy for TVA. Lead the digital team and its development of web, mobile and other digital channels.
  10. Manage the corporate television studio, editing suite, and photography studios; oversee support of major TVA events and provide run-of-show, multimedia and scripting support as needed.
  11. Communicate with the project team and internal clients throughout all stages of the creative process from concept through production to finished product. Measure and analyze effectiveness of communications across channels with regular reporting of progress, impact and return on engagement (RoE).
  12. Manage television and studio support for special events where audiences of TVA employees or external audiences are present. Provide support for satellite uplinking/downlinking and remote transmission of television and audio signals.
  13. Develop and improve the performance of assigned employees.
  14. Role model TVA’s values and leadership behaviors. Create a collaborative and engaging environment where coaching, teamwork, cooperation, communication, inclusion, and creativity actively take place.
  15. Support Communications in fulfilling requirements for after-hours media relations duty, nuclear emergency preparedness, crisis communications preparedness and special projects.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education — Bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing, advertising, film photography, visual arts, journalism or a related field of study; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience — At least 15 years of experience providing a comprehensive working knowledge and experience in creative services, marketing or advanced video and digital production that meets acceptable broadcast standards or business equivalent.  Must have management experience leading a team in the same area as work required for this position. 

Certification/License, etc — None required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Creative strategist. Excellent communicator and storyteller. Strong brand management leadership. Excellent writing, editing, speaking and project management skills required.  Ability and experience leading and managing a staff of creative and technically-skilled communications professionals. Experience integrating various communications disciplines to successfully achieve goals. Understanding of communications as a two-way process and its use in influencing perceptions, attitudes and behaviors. Proven ability to build value generating relationships and collaborate at all levels.  Ability to perform calmly and well in a crisis.  Ability to think strategically and simplify complex issues, develop succinct messaging and create compelling content for a variety of channels.  Ability to measure and analyze effectiveness of communications.  Detailed knowledge of social media, web, graphic design, and advanced television, film and photography production techniques and appropriate use required. Has a working knowledge of computers and computer programs and other technologies that relate to television and photographic production. Knowledge of TVA programs, policies, procedures and organizations desired. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.
