Job Description:

The University at Albany's Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking an experienced graphic designer to design and produce high-­quality visual communications that inspire, inform and captivate audiences. The Graphic Designer will work independently and with colleagues to foster creative collaboration as well as to ensure project understanding, goals and adherence to brand identity.

Please note that this is a 6-month temporary position.

 

The Designer will:

  • Manage incoming projects and work closely with the other designer on staff to share work for effective completion of projects on time and within budget
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the University's brand standards and strategic goals
  • Incorporate and elevate the University's brand and strategic goals within all projects
  • Suggest best practices and creative solutions for marketing and communications projects
  • Manage design consistency, from initial concept to completion, across all media including print, web, email, digital, social, video, etc., utilizing a solid knowledge of digital and print production processes
  • Maintain and organize digital files within a shared network and project management system
  • Design and produce visual communication from initial concept to completion using a variety of medium, including print, web, email, digital, social, video, etc.
  • Create data visualization and information graphics
  • Create innovative designs using elements such as typography, photography, illustrations, graphics and white space
  • Attend and provide creative direction for photo shoots
  • Initiate and maintain solid relationships with external vendors; this will include writing and compiling work estimates
  • Work with a variety of University community members on all three campuses, including faculty, staff and students
  • Work in partnership with the directors and staff inside OCM to bring projects to successful completion on time, within budget and to the expectations of the client and brand
  • Work well in a fast-­paced, creative team environment, with close attention to detail
  • Possess technical problem-solving skills and be capable of identifying file/project design challenges while driving appropriate solutions


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized organization
  • At least 5 years' experience in graphic design
  • Experience in project management with proven success in planning and delivering complex projects
  • Experience in art direction for photo shoots
  • A portfolio of self-produced work demonstrating expertise in graphic design
  • Proficiency with InDesign CC, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC and Bridge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Mac platform OS X and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent understanding of typography, layout and production
  • Experience with both print and digital production processes
  • General knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • General knowledge of responsive web design
  • Experience meeting multiple, dynamic deadlines
  • Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working in this capacity for a large organization
  • Experience in higher education
