We are looking for a highly-motivated individual to join our Consumer & Market Insights (CMI) team in the Consumer Electronic Division. They should be interested in applying their skills in a fast-paced, dynamic learning environment.

The Consumer & Market Insights (CMI) group studies current and potential customers and markets to deliver targeted insight that supports decisive action and effective strategic thinking.? Within CMI, the Qualitative Consumer Insight team uses observational and interview-based methodologies -- in the field and online -- to uncover motivations and unarticulated needs. The insights from this team guide a range of business decisions, including whitespace opportunity identification, new product development, and communications.

We are looking for a high-energy Qualitative Consumer Researcher who works equally well with research colleagues, marketing/sales staff, engineers, and executives. If you are our ideal candidate, you will apply your proven ethnographic and interview skills to better understand consumers’ motivations and unmet needs. You should have experience with in-situ observations, IDIs, and other qualitative techniques in a business environment. Key to your success will be your ability to marry creativity (seeing new questions, and finding ways to uncover the hitherto unknowable) with analytic skills (digging deeply to create clarity from ambiguity) and compelling story-telling (credibly conveying complex findings to a business audience).

Your abundant self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and capacity to juggle conflicting priorities will be your best allies. You will collaborate with others in the Qualitative Consumer Insight team, CMI’s other research teams (quantitative researchers, market analysts, and competitive intelligence specialists), new product management, and advanced development teams to make recommendations about new business directions for Bose.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing qualitative research in a consumer business organization, and deriving actionable insights from this research. They will be rigorous with data and disciplined in drawing conclusions, but also willing to express personal judgment and help the business make intuitive leaps when necessary.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with business and technology experts to understand business and technical concerns, constraints and opportunities. Design, conduct and synthesize research to identify opportunities and answer key business questions. This will include developing a deep understanding of consumer behaviors, needs and motivations. Conduct research using a wide range of qualitative and ethnographic techniques, including in-depth interviews, in-situ observation, and small group discussions. Leverage proven frameworks for analyzing this research and developing actionable recommendations. Identify new research techniques and tools to advance the quality and speed of our work. Inspire teams through collaboration as well as direction, vision, and planning. Requirements:

6+ years of experience applying your qualitative/ethnographic skills to the solution of real-world business problems. Consumer products experience is highly desired. Consumer-electronics experience is particularly beneficial, as is client-side experience. Ability and experience acting as a thought leader with business partners (re-framing questions, identifying opportunities, prioritizing). Able to plan and lead all phases of a research project independently—including assessing needs, designing research, conducting research, developing insights, and creating reports and presentations. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate both conceptual and tactical concepts and write detailed research reports and other final deliverables. Excellent storytelling and presentation skills. Bachelor’s degree (Master’s highly desired) in a relevant field, such as Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, or HCI/Human Factors. Some background in quantitative methods, or at least experience collaborating with quantitative researchers, is desirable as well.
